Day One

Today is my day of reckoning. I'm feeling old and fat. I decided last week to do something about it. I'm going to try run my way back to youth and fitness. But being seriously out of shape I couldn't just jump on the road and go. Actually I did try to a couple weeks ago. Big mistake. Sore legs and the feeling of imminent death changed my mind. So I searched the library and internet and came with a plan to get where I want to be physically.
It will start out as a 10 week program. By week 10 I should be able, theoretically, run 3.5 miles. Non-stop. Hmmm we shall see. I purchased a new pair of running shoes and have a couple old pairs in reserve for emergencies. Planned out a few neighborhood routes and think I'm ready to go.
Today was my first time out. Did 5 sets of run 2 minutes and walk 4 minutes. Wasn't too bad. I survived. I will do this Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The other days will be easy walk or rest days. Each week the running portion increases and the walking part decreases. Also did a few stretching exercises before and after to help prevent injury.
My hope is this diary will help keep me motivated to do what I need to to reach my goals.
I would like to lose 20 of the 185 pounds I'm carrying. My wife joined weight watchers and lost almost 30 pounds in the past 8 weeks. I tried to keep up with her but enjoy food too much. She obviously has much more willpower than I.
OK then my new motto is "Will run for beer". Wish me luck. See you later.
