Day Twenty Three
Hoo boy it's hot. 82 degrees at 11 am. Thought I was going to die. Ran on an old railroad grade across the highway from a lake. I thought it might be a little cooler there but it twern't.
Ran a total of 20 minutes and walked 10 minutes. Still don't have the stamina or fortitude or whatever it is I need to run 7 minutes. This program, appears, will take a bit more than 10 weeks. Me thinks.
The trail I ran on today was level. The old railroad bed wasn't as packed as I felt it might of been. But not too bad. My excuse today is the temperature. I wonder how folks who live in the southern portion of this great country run in the heat? And the humidity? How does one deal with that? I have a difficult time with those things when I'm not exercising. Could be a long hot, discouraging, disappointing but character building summer.
Time, as always, will tell. After dinner this evening I took the kids to the big lake. I wanted to cool down. It was still 87 degrees at 5:30pm. I waded in to my knees. The water temp is really cold. Aching to the bones and cool you off right now cold. The kids, being kids, jumped in and had a great time for about a 1/2 hour. They didn't want to leave but tonight is a school night.
When I was a youngster, my childrens' age, I did stuff like that. My mother tells my kids about the times we swam in Lake Huron, when the water was so cold, our lips turned blue and we shivered so hard from the cold water, we were warmed up by the time we walked to my Granpa's house about a 100 yards from the beach.
This summer we are renting a small cottage on Lake Michigan. We plan all day swimming and doing all the beach stuff with a bonfire to cap the day off. I'm really looking forward to this vacation. More on this subject later.
Will run for beer. See ya.
