Ok This Time for Real I'm Back

This past week has just blew by. It feels like last Saturday was yesterday. Saturday I ran and walked for 90 minutes and covered 4 1/2 miles. Felt pretty good and it was a nice day weatherwise. Sunny and 70. Split the run/walk about 50/50. Don't think I ran for more than 3 minutes at a stretch though. Went cross country along some power lines. Lotta up and down.
Day of rest Sunday plus it was a big football day. Life is good when it is football season.
Monday I ran/walked about 2 miles in 30 minutes. Tried something a little different. Jogged a bit then ran hard for 30 seconds then jogged or walked a minute. Really broke a sweat. I felt pretty good but don't think I could do it everytime I went out. Also moved 3 cords of firewood. Gotta start getting ready for winter.
Tuesday worked an extra day for vacation coverage. Wednesday worked a day shift for vacation coverage and then went to dinner with my family and had no time to run. Thursday spent the day cleaning the house for my wife. We were having company and Mr. Niceguy said he'd clean for her. Took me better part of 6 hours and then had to go to work. No time to run.
This morning I went out and did 2 miles. Couldn't get a rythym and felt less than energetic. Only ran/walked for 25 minutes. 44 degrees but sunny and a light wind. Didn't warm up until the last little bit. This weekend is my weekend to work 12 hour days so won't be going out until Monday. I'll try to get better about running.
Until then will run for beer.

Really, I Am Back

Should of run yesterday but worked a double and was too tired. I'm getting too old to be working that many hours but it doesn't happen very often and makes for nice, fat check. Today I went out and ran 2 miles in 30 minutes. Not very fast true. I didn't have a lot of energy. And I ran a couple minutes and walked a couple. Beautiful weather though. 65 and sunny light breeze.
I've read that running on crowned roads can cause the ITB problem. Since all the roads where I run are crowned, I thought, maybe if I switched sides of the road periodically, I can keep the ITB thing at bay. So a 100 hundred yards on one then switch. Traffic permitting of course.
Also changed my routine a little. Before I would just stretch for 10 minutes and run. Now I'm stretching and then walking for 5 minutes to warm up a bit more. Don't know if it will make a difference. Time will tell.
Felt pretty good when I finished today. Legs weren't as tight as Monday. Going to have to get another pair of running shoes soon. I want to get a pair before the ones I use now get too worn. I run in Riddells I bought cheap at Dunhams. Never a problem one with them. No blisters, sore toes or anything. There is a store in Traverse City that caters to runners that I want to visit before I buy another pair. Just to see to the different brands and models. If I find something I can't live without I'll get a pair fitted and check the interent for pricing.
I've purchased a couple running books in the last month. The Runners' Repair Manual by Dr. Murray Weisenfeld and Galloway's Book On Running by Jeff Galloway and Running by Jim Fixx. The Fixx book, I used to own a copy years ago and could not find when I looked for it. Probably sold in a yard sale. The others I understand have useful information in them. Working my way through them slowly.
That'll do it for now. Will run for beer.

OK I'm Back (I hope)

All right it's a week past Labor Day but I am back. It's kinda disappointing how long it takes to get into shape versus how quickly one de-conditions. I knew I wouldn't be doing a 20 minute run but 4 minutes after I started out, I was walking. Such is life.
Good news is there is no pain. Today at least. My legs felt a little tight and unused to the activity. And, that, I expected. I also expected to run a little longer and farther. Looks like back to beginning. Hopefully it won't take 10 weeks to get where I was before. I hope the stretching and strengthening exercises pay off.
Gained back 6 of the 8 lbs. I had lost. Should have ridden the bike more or at least walked abit more. Oh well. Too many other things to attract my attention. Labor Day we went camping for the 2nd time this summer. Played tourist up in Mackinaw City. Got a new puppy to replace an old dog we have; who is still with us but not for long if she doesn't start making it outdoors to do her business. And just trying to get in as much summer activities as we can.
Haven't ridden the bike as much as I should have. I looked at new ones and to get something decent is going to run 300-500 dollars. I'm thinking a hydrid road type bike. Mainly pavement riding but still enough for off road when the urge strikes. We'll see. The area shops are having model close out sales and maybe I'll get lucky and find one.
Anyway will run for beer.
