What I Learned This Week in Running
Last Wednesday I ran 3.5 miles as I did not have the energy nor drive to go a lot further. 42 minutes was my time, if I remember correctly. Working 16 hours of OT does not give one the extra energy or time to run fast let alone run long.
Thursday I went around the block in 48 minutes. Had a nice long soak in a cool tub of water because my legs really felt it. This is a recent revelation to me. Tubs of cool water. I find it difficult to get in, but once in, it is not too awful bad. And I think it does help. I've read about icing injuries and sore places; watched pro atheletes sit in icy whirlpools; and finally made the connection. after stretching a bit jump in the tub and amazingly don't feel bad at all the next day.
Worked Friday Saturday and Sunday so no time to run. Today, Monday, I did the 6 mile run. 1:15. Would have been better except: I found out I don't need arch support socks. Make my arches sore. Stopped once to take them off about mile 1. And before I finished I stopped and put them back on. Just to be sure, you know. The last 1/2 mile was a bit brutal on my feet. I wanted a couple pairs of 'running socks' and these were on sale, so what the hey? Hey, I don't need 'em and won't be wearing 'em again. Put them in a box for unused running items. Today was my eldest daughters first cross country practice. I wonder how she did? I didn't call tonight. Forgot.
Taking tomorrow off from running and get back on Wednesday. Will run for beer.
