Another Monday Moanin'

Running late here as usual. Monday did the state park run and all was well until the 2 mile mark. The ITB started to whine. Another 1/2 mile and all I could do was walk. What a pisser. And I was running a 35 minute pace for the loop. I ran most of the 2 miles and now am wondering if I didn't just flat out overdo it. I only had to walk 4 minutes. Finished in 45 minutes. (Big sigh here).
Sometime earlier I set a goal of 1 mile by mid-October and 2 miles by early November. I might be pushing things. My age and lack of running experience will dictate more of what I will be able to accomplish than my desire. And this morning I woke up and the quads in my right leg are really tender and tight. I don't know what that's all about. I cut firewood today until my saw quit and by the time I got back to the house my right leg was crying the blues. Probably from squatting while using the saw. Will get the stretching book out and work on the quads. Maybe find some good leg exercises to help prevent sore legs. I don't enjoy pain of any kind.
Debating with myself about running Wednesday. I'll probably try but thinking I should go cross country. I think running on uneven terrain uses the muscles, well, differently. Running on the road you use the same repetative stride and strain the muscles. Off road you use the muscles, well, not repetatively but different. Not running a straight line but turning and dipping, uphill then down, shortening then lengthening the stride. Also the ground is easier on the legs than the asphalt roadway. I don't know, does that make sense? Probably not. I enjoy running but not the pain of running. The ITB is pain and, my understanding, no physical damge occurs just hurts like all get out. Hurts to the point I can't run and where's the fun in that? Oh, yeah, I ordered an ITB strap from Cho-Pat. I don't know if it will help but it can't hurt. I looked all over town and no one carries them. You can find every other type of brace or strap you could want but not the ITB strap.
OK that's enough whinning for one day. Will run for beer. See ya. Bye
