Runnin' Behind
As usual I'm a couple days behind. Time just whizzes right on down the road and there are days I can't keep up.
Let' see, what runs have I missed? Ran/walked last Monday in the 'hood. Just a quick 2.6 mile run/walk. Did that in 28 minutes. A nice fall day to be outside. Nothing special about it, as I rack my brain, except I managed to go 1 mile non-stop. First time in along time. Months at least.
Wednesday I did the state park run in 41 minutes. I could of gone a bit faster but ran a slower pace to try and get more running and less walking. Got to watch the weather come in off Lake Michigan. Big wind out of the northwest. When I started out the water was flat and calm and by the time I finished the whitecaps were rolling pretty good. Neat to watch. My wife and I used to sit and watch the storms come in off the lake. We were easily amused I guess. Since I took the job I have now storms mean overtime. And that's something I don't always necessarily want.
However, due to that same big wind, we were pretty busy at work. I work after hours dispatch for an electric co-op. Wind means trees and limbs falling into lines and causing outages. Even though there were a lot of people off it went fairly well. The storm started during the day when all the lineman were working and that meant we had crews taking care of business. If it had happened after hours and the weekend it would've been a lot harder getting crews. Yes, they all worked long hours, and are compensated, it is always difficult finding people to work storms.
My run/walk Wednesday went good. I felt good and no problems with the legs. All the strecthing and rolling does make a difference. Another thing I might try and do is run an extra day or two a week. Get in a few more miles. But I need to monitor this because I don't want the ITB to flare up. I'm pretty lucky with running injurywise. I read a lot of blogs by runners and I'm surprised at the numbers who suffer injuries. Sounds to me like many people simply overdo it. I don't care for pain so I'll try to be careful.
Alrighty then. Will run for beer.
